Is my setup safe?
Most reptile "illness" starts in the setup, not the animal — and it's almost all preventable. Pick your reptile and tick what's true of your enclosure. You'll get a personalised risk report: what to fix now, what to double-check, and the signs that mean it's time to see a vet.

How do I know if my reptile setup is safe?
Check it against the three things that cause most harm: deadly setup mistakes (like a heat mat for a basking lizard, or skipping UVB), husbandry numbers that are out of range (enclosure size, basking temperature, UVB, humidity), and any warning signs the animal is already showing. This free audit walks you through all three for your species and gives you a personalised risk report — every check comes straight from our fact-checked care sheets.
What is the most common beginner reptile setup mistake?
Getting heat and UVB wrong, by a wide margin. Most reptile "illness" is really a husbandry gap — too little heat, missing or expired UVB, the wrong humidity, or a tank that is far too small — not bad luck. A heat mat under a basking lizard, a weak coil UVB bulb, or a starter-kit tank that the animal outgrows in months are the classics. Getting the basics right prevents the majority of problems.
Does the setup audit replace a vet?
No. It never diagnoses. It flags common setup risks from our fact-checked care sheets and always shows the "see a reptile vet now" signs. If the audit surfaces a warning sign, or things do not improve after you fix the basics, see an exotics or reptile vet — when in doubt, a vet call is never the wrong move.
Is the setup audit free?
Yes — completely free, no account, and the risk report always shows on the page. Joining the den is optional; it just lets us save your result and remind you to re-check your setup.
This audit reflects your own ticks against our fact-checked care sheets. It flags common risks — it can't see your animal and never diagnoses. When in doubt, an exotics/reptile vet is never the wrong call.
