Which reptile is right for me?
Six honest questions — how much you want to handle it, how you feel about feeding, space, lifespan and lighting — and we'll match you to the reptiles that actually fit. It's a shortlist to research, not a verdict: every match links to its full, fact-checked care guide.

Common questions
What is the best reptile for a beginner?
The five that top almost every list are the crested gecko, leopard gecko, bearded dragon, corn snake and ball python — all hardy, handleable and well-documented. Crested geckos are arguably the easiest (room temperature, a complete powdered diet, no live insects); corn snakes are the classic first snake. The 'best' one is whichever honestly fits your space, budget, feeding comfort and how long a commitment you can make — which is exactly what this quiz weighs up.
Which reptile can I keep without a heat lamp?
A small handful thrive at ordinary room temperature and need no hot basking lamp — the crested gecko and gargoyle gecko are the classic examples (they must actually stay under the mid-80s°F). Most reptiles, though, genuinely need proper heat and UVB to stay healthy, so "no lamp" should narrow your choice, not be faked with an under-heated tank.
Which reptile is best if I don't want to feed live insects or rodents?
The crested gecko and gargoyle gecko eat a complete commercial powdered diet (insects are optional), and tortoises are herbivores that eat plants and greens — so all three avoid live insects and rodents. If live insects are fine but rodents are not, the insect-eating lizards and geckos open up; only the snakes here are rodent-fed.
How accurate is a which-reptile quiz?
Treat any quiz as a shortlist-maker, not a decision. This one matches your answers against real, fact-checked traits (care model, difficulty, adult size and lifespan) to surface a few species worth reading about — but the only way to choose well is to read the full care guide for each match and confirm you can meet the real commitment before you buy.
