"In blue" describes a snake about to shed, when its eyes turn milky blue and its colours dull because the spectacle and skin are separating from the new layer beneath.
A snake in blue has reduced vision, so it's more defensive and best left un-handled until it sheds and clears. It's a normal part of the shed cycle — raise humidity to help the shed come off cleanly.
